Don Schumacher Racing and Funny Car driver Ron Capps face an interrupted pre-season following a fire aboard the NAPA Auto Parts hauler on the way to testing.

The transporter was traveling through Texas when the fire broke out, with the truck driver able to safely stop the big rig. He escaped injury but the damage to the hauler was significant enough to stop the journey.

While Capps will miss testing, Don Schumacher Racing have sent a replacement hauler to ensure he will be present for the opening event of the season at Pomona.

“We’re still not sure of the extent of damage yet inside our race hauler or (to the) race cars from the fire,” Capps said via Twitter.

“We’ll miss preseason testing unfortunately, but thanks to Herculean efforts from so many people we’ll see you in Pomona.”
